SAANICH CIVIC LEAGUE

At the Roca General Meeting held on May 14, there was a presentation by Sher Morgan regarding the work of the Saanich Civic League. A copy of their brochure is below and as it clearly states, the arena in which the average voter has the most influence and power, are the Municipal elections, which occur this November.

At the civic level, the candidates are from your locality, there are no slick ads, no handlers making sure the correct "sound bites" are being put out there, no entourage to keep the "hoi polloi" away from the candidates, and the councilors, once elected will be directly responsible to the voters for their voting record. No sending them off to some far away capitol only to have them turn around and reverse their positions on the issues they campaigned on.

You have the power...VOTE!

APRIL 17, 2008

Hello Everyone:

We have been informed from Saanich that Mike Geric Construction has filed their plans through their Agent, Herb Kwan for the 2-12 story condo’s and a 1-6 story building on the middle school lands.  The enclosed documents are from Saanich.  If you are sending a letter to Saanich, please quote this information in your letter:

APPLICATION FOR DEVELOPMENT ON LOT 1, SECTION 9, LAKE DISTRICT, PLAN 26006 EXCEPT PART IN PLAN VIP83064  ▪  4564 WEST SAANICH ROAD

CASE NO:    DPR2008-00009; REZ2008-00008

At the Annual General Meeting of the Royal Oak Community Association, held February 19, 2008 a resolution was passed that indicated we do not support the proposal as presented.  A response to Saanich’s memo (attached) has been sent.

We will be starting a process of contacting individual strata’s and neighbours to bring them up-to-date with the situation.  We encourage you to participate in this very important issue.

We will also be trying to continue the discourse with Mike Geric Construction and their agent Herb Kwan.  Clearly, the neighbourhood is not feeling comfortable with the proposal and we wish to find some more middle ground.
